The Marais, a glimpse from Suzanne.
The buying part of the trip was essentially over, but it’s hard to turn it off even though I allowed myself and my husband to wander the Marais area of Paris for a couple of days. This is one of the original oldest parts of Paris that is being restored. I noticed the beautiful doors on the many city chateaux – called Hotels. I will share some of my favorites…
I also thought it touching on the Pont des Artistes where hundreds of young lovers had left locks and notes pronouncing their hearts were locked together forever.
And here, I thought I must truly be at home when I saw this clever shop amongst all the art galleries:
The art galleries, by the way, were definitely favoring African art at the moment. Most windows contained old masks, figures, shields and paintings from all over Africa. The Gables does have four masks in our inventory from old French colonies in Africa.
Finally, it’s time to come home to the USA. I must say it was a little emotional watching the 9/11 ceremonies from my Paris hotel room. I wanted to be home with my fellow Americans. I was very grateful to have made a safe buying trip abroad. I look forward to unloading our container sometime in October. To me, this trip is a pronouncement that the show must go on. American business will prevail, including The Gables Antiques.
